About Great News Network

Great News Network (GNN) was launched in 2003 with a simple mission: to show that progress is being made, even when the news can make it feel like the world is all doom and gloom.

We report developments in science, health, the environment, human rights, and other areas where evidence shows that people are solving problems or testing promising approaches. We aim to explain what happened, why it matters, and what remains uncertain. Progress deserves coverage that is both hopeful and accurate.

Today, AI gives us an opportunity to take that mission further. We do not want to only report progress. We want to help accelerate it. For each story, we ask whether the progress could be improved, expanded, or applied in a new way. AI helps us explore research, connect ideas across fields, and develop questions and possible next steps that might be useful to the people doing the work.

These ideas are possibilities to investigate, not proven solutions. We aim to make clear what the original sources established and what GNN is proposing for further exploration.

AI drafts GNN articles. Members of the editorial team read each draft, correct errors, check it for accuracy, and decide whether it is ready to publish. The team is responsible for the final published content.
